The faculty in the Upper School are leaders both in their discipline and in their practice. With 63% of our faculty holding advanced degrees, our teachers, across all disciplines, are masters of the material they teach. Whether they are designing a lab experiment or leading a discussion around a seminar table, Crystal teachers know how to best bring the subject to life. After almost every class at least one or two students will stay behind to continue discussing the connection to another period in history or the implications of a physics equation. Our students love to learn and our teachers love to teach.
The faculty continue to have a tremendous impact on the student experience outside of the classroom. Leading an advisory, each teacher helps students and their families form their academic trajectory and navigate the challenges and excitement of the Upper School. Teachers also sponsor clubs, leading students in the art of debate or giving advice for a selection on a foreign film night. At the culmination of the Upper School, faculty members serve as sponsors for Senior Projects and help students explore a subject for which the student has a passion. In these less-traditional learning environments, the faculty are mentors to Upper School students as they help the student become the instigator, organizer, and, ultimately, the teacher.
Crystal students, alumni, and faculty all identify the close relationships they share with one another as the highlight of the CSUS experience. At Crystal you will throw the frisbee in the Commons with a teacher or share a coffee on the back steps as you talk about things as mundane as the movie you saw over the weekend or as profound as your hopes for the future. Your teachers will sing in costume during the Lip Synch and come to watch your solo during Fine Arts Night. These close relationships will define your experience at CSUS and set you up for tremendous success in school and life.
